Wayland Union Schools has received a $3,000 grant from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation to purchase books this summer.

Books will be distributed to students participating in the Summer Learning program. Books will be aligned with themes and topics determined by the teacher who is facilitating programming for that grade level. This will allow students and teachers to engage in book talks during the Summer Learning program and keep kids reading during the summer months.

The Summer Learning program is provided by invitation only. Invites were sent in February and families had until April to enroll their students.

Assistant Superintendent of Instruction Teresa Fulk said, “We are really grateful to the Dollar General Literacy Foundation for this grant as it will help us keep books in the hands of our kids who need help in building their literacy skills.”
