Wayland sports seasons to be kicked off in next 3 days

The fall 2018 sports season will get under way for Wayland Thursday, Aug. 16, at 9 a.m. when the Wildcats’ varsity girls’ golf team competes in the Zeeland Invitational.

Wayland’s volleyball team will open its season Friday under new coach Krissy Dill, a WHS graduate, all-state player and record-setting hitter at Davenport University. The ‘Cats will take part in the annual West Michigan Volleyball Officials Association tournament at the MVP Sports Complex. Neighboring Hopkins also will be among the competitors.

The coed cross-country teams will have a meet Friday at Hudsonville Unity Christian.

The boys’ soccer team will open at home with an invitational Saturday at the varsity field behind the middle school. Besides the host team, Hastings, Fennville and West Catholic will participate. The Wildcats will play Hastings at 10 a.m. Fennville and West Catholic will tangle at 11:15. Round two games will be at 12:30 and 1:45 and the championship round will be played at 3 p.m.

Admission for the soccer games will be $3 for students and $5 for adults.

Concessions will be available.
