Wayland Supt. asks for parents’, students’ cooperation

Wayland Union Schools Supt. Tim Reeves today issued a statement abou the recent spate of school closures as a result of bomb or shooter threats.

Reeves wrote, “As you are likely aware, several of our neighboring school districts have brefly closed in recent weeks due to possible threat investigations. Luckily, none of these threats have been confirmed and often have originated from outside the community.

“This week, Wayland Union Schools’ district administration and local authorities have investigated rumors, not direct threats. Mike Miller, our district safety officer, and Jon Schaefer, our school resource officer, amd out building adminsitrators investigate all possible threats and rumors because we take our staff and students’ safety very seriously. In addition, we are grateful with our partnership with local law enforcement agncies who assist us with investigations, as necessary. We have a vetted threat assessment procedure that we use when we are made aware of possible threats made toward our schools.

“This is a good opportunity to talk to your students about responsible behavior with social media and how spreading false information can lead to increased anxiety and fear. If your student sees or hears something concerning, we ask they immediately go to a trusted adult in their school and not repost or share it. Our students’ safety is our top priority, and we appreciate your partnership with us.”
