Wayland school officials’ salary figures corrected

EDITOR’S NOTE: Townbroadcast’s salary figures in the original story were not accurate. The following are the proper pay figures for school adminstrators.

The Wayland Board of Education Monday night approved a 2% raise for Superintendent Norm Taylor for the 2018-19 academic year.

The superintendent now makes  $135,265 annually. Other administators’ pay is High School Principal Tom Cutler, $115,305; Director of Finance & Operations Pat Velie, $112,743; Director of Curriculum Teresa Fulk, $111,296, and Middle School Principal Carolyn Whyte, $103,372.

Members of the Wayland Education Association this year were able to negotiate a 4.5% pay increase in the board’s effort to make up for recent years when they received much less in raises.

Wayland teachers at the entry level, bachelor of arts degree, Step 1, have a beginning salary of $37,044; the general midpoint (master’s degree) is $54,926 and the highest teacher’s salary (MA+30 Step 25) is $79,745.

Taylor commented, “Please keep in mind that we compete not only with our Allegan County school districts, but with our larger neighboring districts to the north, such as Thornapple-Kellogg, Caledonia, and Byron Center.”
