Wayland Township Clerk Ann McInerney announced at Tuesday night’s Township Board meeting that she will not seek a fourth term.
McInerney, a Republican, will have been clerk for 12 years, when she retires Nov. 20.
She said she is retiring to spend more time with family. Her fifth grandchild and first grand-daughter was recently born. McInerney stated she enjoyed her time as clerk of Wayland Township and the changes she has helped make.
The majority of the clerk’s responsibilities are township records, accounts payable and receivable, township meeting minutes and elections including the voter registration file. In Wayland Township the clerk also is the sexton for the four township cemeteries.
McInerney said she would be happy to discuss the position with anyone interested.
A person must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 years of age, registered to vote and a resident of the township for at least 30 days before the date they file to run for township office. The entire Township Board is up for re-election every four years, on the time-line with the President.
Thank you for your efforts for the township. You are an exemplary public servant!
