Wayland Union marching band preparing for season

The Wayland Union High School marching band was out in full force Monday at Ron Stehouwer Stadium to begin work on their programs for this fall’s season. The Wildcats, under the direction of Kelly Tlley Smith, will feature creepy “Decomposers,” such as Johann Sebastian Bach, with the promise of the Toccata and Fugue, made famous by the Phantom of the Opera movie of a century ago with Lon Chaney. The theme for Monday’s exercises was Beach Day, appropriately shown in the picture at left. The Wildcats will open the season at home on Friday, Aug. 26, when neighboring Rival Hopkins comes to town, renewing the “Border Wars” series.
