Families who would like to learn more about Wayland Union Schools’ preschool and kindergarten programs may attend the Early Childhood Nights Tuesday, Feb. 16, at Dorr Elementary and Wednesday, Feb. 17, at Baker Elementary.
Both schools will have a presentation for parents from 6 to 6:30 p.m. for an overview of all of the district’s early childhood programs. From 6:30 to 7:30, parents and children can visit classrooms, meet teachers, tour the building, visit various information booths, and register their child for preschool or kindergarten.
Child care is available during the presentation. Please arrive 15 minutes early if using child care.
The district offers low tuition rates for 3- and 4-year-old preschool because of cash in lieu of taxes from the Gun Lake Casino. Rates for in-district residents have been reduced by nearly 50% from previous years.
Free preschool also is available for families who qualify through Head Start and Great Start Readiness programs.
For 3- and 4-year-old preschool, children must turn either 3 or 4 on or before Sept. 1, 2016. Kindergarteners must turn 5 on or before Sept. 1, 2016.
Preferred enrollment for preschool and kindergarten is Feb. 15-26. Families can pick up packets in the office of either Baker or Dorr elementaries during office hours or at the Early Childhood Nights. Please bring child’s birth certificate, immunization record, and proof of residency when registering.
