Two cases of the Coronavirus have been reported at two separate buildings in the Wayland School District today.

School officials did not specify which two buildings among the six were involved.
Supt. Dr. Christina Hinds, in a letter to parents, wrote:
“This week, Wayland Union Schools has been notified that two people, from separate buildings, are confirmed positive for COVID-19. With this in mind, I would like to explain how positive cases will be communicated. This information was also shared in the ‘Superintendent Update’ on September 11 when introducing the COVID-19 Dashboard posted on our website.
“In collaboration with the Allegan County Health Department, the District will only communicate confirmed COVID-19 cases to those who are in direct contact with the person(s) who tested positive. Confirmed positive cases must occur within a school building, student event/activity, or district-sponsored function.
“Names of those impacted (whether it is a student, employee, district approved volunteer, or guest/spectator) will not be shared. All contact tracing will be handled confidentially by the Allegan County Health Department. For District-transparency, our COVID-19 Dashboard will be updated weekly on Fridays and posted on our website.
“In an effort to protect student and employee privacy rights, we respectfully encourage all Wayland Union Schools families and staff not to spread rumors or false information. The health and safety of everyone is important and we trust that we will work as a community to support each other as we face this pandemic together.
“Remember, if your child is sick; do not send them to school. If you, your student or a member of your family has COVID-19 symptoms, please contact your health professional. Please continue to follow all COVID-19 health and safety recommendations from the Allegan County Health Department and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):
● Cleaning your hands often, either with soap and water for 20 seconds or a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
● Avoiding close contact with people who are sick.
● Maintaining distance between yourself and other people (at least 6 feet).
● Covering your mouth and nose with a cloth face covering when around others.
● Covering your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. Clean your hands after throwing away the tissue.
● Cleaning and disinfecting frequently-touched objects and surfaces daily.”
