Wayland will have only school board contests Nov. 8

The only contest foschool boardr Nancy Thelenlocal school board positions in the Nov. 8 general election will be in Wayland.

The deadline for filing was July 26, and two candidates are seeking two seats in Hopkins and only one will be on the ballot for two seats in Martin.

Wayland Board of Education candidates include Dan Cassini, Theresa Dobry, Cinnamon Mellema, Tom Salingue and Gary Wood in a five-for-four race. Dobry, current Board President Salingue and Wood all are incumbents and Mellema and Cassini are newcomers.

Veteran Board member Nancy Thelen has decided not to seek re-election.

The five candidates are in stark contrast to two years ago, when only one, Toni Ordway, was on the ballot for three seats. Janelle Timmerman-Hott and Pete Zondervan won the remaining positions with write-in votes.

Rosemary Anderson is the only candidate for Martin, so a write-in will be needed to fill the other slot.

The two Hopkins candidates who will be unopposed are newcomer Traci Rhodes and incumbent Jeff Gilder.
