The popular splash pad in the Wayland City Park has concluded its summer run as of Tuesday, Sept. 5, according to city officials.
The announcement was made at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting.
Councilman Tim Rose said he’s been told the some four million gallons of water used by the popular attraction may make it more expensive, but it shows its value in attracting people to downtown Wayland.
“I’m excited about its popularity and I think the Department of Public Works does a great job keeping it up,” he said.
Councilwoman Tracy Bivins said she’s heard people from as far away as Rockford have come here just to enjoy the splash pad.
Councilwoman Lisa Banas added that the splash pad has added use of the pavilions in the park, noting that every time she drives by, she notices they are packed with families.
In other business at Tuesday night’s meeting, the council:
• Agreed to contract with Stoddard & Sons of Wayland for the cleaning, jetting and root cutting for the city’s sewer system.
• Was told by Streets Superintendent Coleman Lutz that the East Maple Street project from North Main Street east to Steeby Elementary was completed before students started their first day on the new academic year.
One of the best things Wayland has done for their citizens and the children. See it used a lot every time I drive by the park.
