Mary Swainston of Hopkins posted this photo while traveling on 28th Street in Grand Rapids Sunday. “From the house to GR airport and back home we counted 12 slide-offs, spin-outs, accidents, roll-over, and one van which did a U-turn and headed into oncoming traffic on M-6!” she commented. Virtually all area schools were called off Sunday night, but Wayland Supt. Norm Taylor took a more cautious approach. There was a lot of unpleasant chatter on Facebook as a result. There was even a report of an elementary student calling the other phone in the home and trying imitate Taylor’s voice. The superintendent announced Wayland schools would be closed at about 10 p.m. Sunday.
