The Hopkins baseball team has won four of its first five contests thus far this season.
The Vikings defeated Fennville 10-4, swept a doubleheader with Wyoming Godwin Heights and edged Comstock Park, but lost an extra-inning game against Grand Rapids West Catholic.
A walk-off hit Wednesday in the 10th inning left Hopkins on the wrong end of a 7-6 score against Grand Rapids West Catholic.
The game was tied at 6-6 with West Catholic batting in the bottom of the tenth when an error scored one run for West Catholic.
West Catholic captured a 5-0 lead in the first inning, but the Vikings eventually evened things up at six in the top of the seventh when James Wubben came through with a two-run double.
Hopkins collected six hits and the Falcons had eight.
Brenden Gossman took the loss in relief on the mound for Hopkins. He went six innings, allowing one run on two hits and striking out five.
Tyler Zomerlei started the game, going three innings, allowing six runs on six hits and striking out four. Zomerlei went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Hopkins offensively.
Hopkins built a six-run lead in the fifth inning and then held off Comstock Park’s charge. The Panthers scored eight runs in the failed comeback
and tied the game at 9-9 in the bottom of the sixth inning.
Ezran Tehennepe allowed five hits and six runs over four and a third innings, striking out three.
Hopkins racked up 13 hits in the game. Tehennepe, Nagel, Drew Osborn and Tyler Zomerlei all managed multiple hits. Tehennepe went 4-for-4 at the plate.
