Travis Wilcox has resigned his post as head baseball coach and behavior intervention specialist for the Wayland Union school district.

Wilcox, a 2001 graduate of Carson City-Crystal, has returned to his high school alma mater to become the school’s new athletic director. The position became vacant when Devin Pringle stepped down to take the post of varsity head football coach at Owosso High School.

Wilcox, 34, son of 1971 Wayland High School graduate and catcher Tom Wilcox, is  returning to Carson City after guiding the Wildcats for two seasons. His resume also includes working with Major League Baseball (MLB) and the Detroit Tigers and Kansas City Royals organizations.

He had also coached CC-C teams previously, heading the Eagles baseball team at age 23 for two years before being hired by MLB to run its first-ever youth academy.

His father, Tom, is a retired school board president who continues to volunteer as a game announcer for Carson City football and basketball games.
