The Wayland boys’ varsity tennis team is off to a rough start this season with four losses and a tie in dual match action last week.

The Wildcats fell 6-2 to Spring Lake, 8-0 to Williamston and 7-1 to Zeeland East Wednesday, Aug. 22, in the Jenison Invitational.

Nick Adams won 2-6, 6-2, 10-7 in his match at No. 2 singles against Spring Lake. Dilon Kelly took his No. 3 singles contest in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.

Giving their opponents a good scrap were Collin and Christian Siefert in doubles, No. 1 singles Rory Bessinger.

Bessinger was the only victor against Zeeland East, winning 6-2, 6-1 and he was the only winner for Wayland in the East Kentwood Invitational.

The Wildcats battled Muskegon Reeths-Puffer to a 4-4 draw, with all four singles players, Bessinger, Adams, Kelly and Nate Ward picking up wins. In doubles the Sieferts lost in a close tie-breaker, as did Noah Oosterhouse and Dawson Merice.
