Wayland High School graduate Cory Ainsworth of Cornerstone Basketball has earned his second consecutive Academic All America, as selected by CoSIDA All-District honor after his performance both on the court and in the classroom in 2021-22!

The Cornerstone junior center has earned the honor for the second consecutive season. Ainsworth is a pre-med major at Cornerstone with a 3.77 grade point average and has been an outstanding athlete for the Golden Eagles as well over his career.

Ainsworth has been in and out of the lineup in 2021-22 due to injury, but the First Team All-WHAC and WHAC All-Freshman Team athlete has put up outstanding numbers in 2021-22 in 21 games played and 19 started. He averages 14.4 points per game this year to rank second on the team along with a team second best 6.2 rebounds per game. Ainsworth is shooting better than 60% from the field again this season, as his career average is 63.4%.

Ainsworth is outstanding on the defensive end as well as he previously was named to the WHAC All-Defensive Team and this year has 40 blocks for an average of just under two per game.

The 2021-22 Academic All-District Men’s and Women’s Basketball Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognize the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program separately recognizes basketball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second- and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in mid-March.
