Wayland High School graduate Robby Young (wearing cap) talks things over with his Rampart High School girls’ varsity cross-country team just before the regionals Thursday afternoon in Colorado. The Lady Rams qualified for the state meet for the fourth time in the last six seasons under his guidance. The Rampart boys’ team, meanwhile, qualified for state for the sixth consecutive season and earlier this month claimed its sixth straight conference championship under Young’s tutelage. The girls and boys will race at state Saturday, Oct. 28. Young graduated from WHS in 2003 and was a four-year letter winner in cross country, track and swimming before running cross and steeplechase for Grand Valley State University.
