Lt. Darren Green

A key figure in the news story today about the protests in Lansing is a graduate of Wayland High School.

Lieutenant Darren Green, public information officer of the Michigan State Police Security Operations Section told Newsweek this afternoon there were no other incidents with protesters besides the altercation in the gallery. He was talking about a woman being taken from the Capitol Building on a stretcher at her request.

He said about five to 10 demonstrators were still outside the state House as he spoke today with Newsweek by phone.

Green explained that the ambulance had been called at the injured woman’s request. He said that police will now conduct “a complete and thorough investigation” to understand the details of what occurred. That information will then be forwarded to the prosecutor’s office, which will decide if charges should be filed.

First Lt. Green, whom fellow former Wildcat David Kouchnerkavich identified as a classmate in his trigonometry class during the 1995-96 academic year at Wayland High School, now lives in Mason with his family and has been public information officer since 2018.

Kouchnerkavich said on Facebook, “He’s been recently quoted in this and many articles covering these… tremendously organic ‘protests’.”

Dave, Darren Green is a full Lieutenant with the MSP. He has been with them twenty years and his current assignment puts him in charge of security for the Capital Building and all the people that serve there.
