WHS grad, Navy nuclear field coordinator pays a visit

Wayland High School graduate and U.S. Navy Nuclear Field Coordinator Darrin Door explained how how uranium turns into energy and other nuclear energy topics recently in a visit to David Robinson’s science classroom.

Door, Class of 2006, has been in the Navy for seven years in the nuclear engineering program. He served in Charleston, S.C., for two years and was then stationed on the U.S.S. Abraham Lincoln, where he traveled mostly in the Pacific. He talked to students about nuclear power, nuclear energy, and alternative energy sources like wind and solar power.

Door also talked about his travels to many different countries, Thailand being his favorite, and how the Navy opened up opportunities for travel and career options.

He was also joined by Petty Officer Heath Kornack and Stephanie Rice, nuclear trained electronic technician, who answered questions from students about life in the Navy.
