Former Wayland High School standout Sierra Mutschler (left) crushed a three-run homer in the fifth inning in Saturday’s NCAA Division III regional softball championship game for Hope College against Franklin (Ind.) The Flying Dutch won 6-1 to advance to the tourney finals against Calvin at noon Monday in Holland. Mutschler, who plays second base for Hope (31-10), was an all-state shortstop for the Lady Wildcats under coach Cheri Ritz (right). She now has 28 career home runs for the Dutch, a school record.
