WHS grad Todd Myers ties for 1st in collegiate golf tourney

Rory Myers, a 2018 Wayland High School graduate, captured the first tournament win of his collegiate career Tuesday afternoon at the Egypt Valley Championship, hosted by Taylor University.

The Spring Arbor University freshman sat in 11th place through two rounds, but fired a three-under par 69 over the final 18 holes to vault up the leaderboard. Myers closed the two-day tournament with a three-round score of 222 (78-75-69) and shared medalist honors with Grace College’s Payton Kelly.

Myers’ 222 is tied for the seventh-best 54-hole score in program history while his final round 69 was just two strokes off the program’s all-time best 18-hole score.

Spring Arbor finished fifth in the team standings with a score of 949. Taylor earned first place with a 898, and was followed by Grace with a 916.

Myers becomes the second Cougar this season to finish first at an event this season after sophomore Trevor Rupp shared the top spot at the SAU Bill Bockwitz Classic just two weeks ago.
