Tristen Ortiz when he was a senior on the Wildcat soccer team a year ago.

Freshman Tristen Ortiz, a 2017 graduate of Wayland High School, scored two goals to help lead the Trine University men’s soccer team to a 3-1 win against Muskingum University in its first game of the Transy Soccer Showcase hosted by Transylvania (Ky.) University to kick off the 2017 season.

Junior Kurt Wysocki (Avon/St. Edward) scored just under six minutes in to give the Thunder a 1-0 lead. Just under seven minutes to go in the first, Ortiz netted his first goal of the game at the 38:18 minute mark with a helper from freshman Chris Clemens (Angola, Ind./Angola), that increased the margin to 2-0 in favor of Trine at the intermission.

Muskingum got on the board during the 80th minute of the second half on an unassisted marker to cut the Thunder lead in half, 2-1.

Trine then put the game away in the late minutes of the contest when Ortiz found the back of the net for the second time, this time with an unassisted goal, at the 87:53 mark off of a goalie deflection that increased the margin back to a pair of goals.
