Former Wayland softball catcher Abby Phillips VanPeursem has received the Hope of Humanity Award at Hope College.
She was described at the college’s ceremony as “passionately focused on doing the right hard thing.” In the last five years, she has taken on the role of being the CEO of Poetice. “She guides this ministry with vision, wisdom and humility,” said former high school softball coach Cheri Ritz. “Abby sees and champions the strengths and potential in people. She has created a culture within Poetice where people feel confident in their walk with the Lord and believing what God has called them to do.”
As a four year catcher for the Wildcats, leading the state championship team in 2015, Ritz said, “I always knew that Abby would walk the road to success and always be a true Champion of Character in Life. She is doing great things in Africa and continues to make us proud!”
