Wayland Union High School National Honor Society students have been busy with a service project intended to benefit the entire community —  Little Free Libraries.

The honor students visited the libraries throughout the district to refresh them. Students weeded books that were out of date or in poor condition, straightened up the books to make the libraries more inviting, and added new books.

The Little Free Libraries throughout the district are part of the Building a Community of Readers project, started in 2018, spearheaded byAssistant Superintendent of Instructional Services Teresa Fulk as a way to increase access to books for students in the community.

Since then, multiple businesses, agencies, and individuals, including the United Way of Allegan County, have worked together to build, install and host the libraries. The project started with one little free library located within district boundaries and has now expanded to 30.

National Honor Society advisors are Dr. Linda Bensyl and Chris Jasinski.
