WHS marching band to do Stravinsky’s ‘Firebird Suite’

Wayland High School Band Director Kelli Tilley Smith has announced the marching band this fall will perform Russian composer Igor Stravinsky’s “Firebird Suite” for halftime shows and competitions. Though prep bands these days often perform music from movies, Ms. Smith commented, “It’s time for us to take a break from music for fun and play music for the soul.” Stravinsky, who emigrated to France from Russia, had the premier concert for the entire ballet performed in Paris in 1910. The suite was featured in the Disney movie “Fantasia 2000.”
