Wayland, Hopkins and Martin all will join the fun this Saturday morning and afternoon at the Hopkins Track Invitational.

The Viking boys and girls have enjoyed a week off, the Lady Vikings are closing in on their seventh straight season with either an O-K Silver championship or co-championship. Their biggest obstacle will be Belding, which tied Hopkins for the crown a year ago and which has lost only two dual meets in the past several seasons — both to Hopkins.

Meanwhile, the Wayland boys’ varsity track team came up with two dual meet victories Tuesday over O-K Gold Conference opponents, beating Middleville Thornapple Kellogg 74-62 and Forest Hills Eastern 77-59.

The Lady Wildcats, who have never competed at full strength all season, continued to struggle, losing 110-27 to Forest Hills and 108.5 to 28.5 to Middleville. Individual standouts Maggie Whitney and Rylee Cronkright have been nursing injuries and attempting comebacks while sophomore record-breaking hurdler Corrina Courser was not present Tuesday.

Junior Wildcat sprinters Caleb Wolf and Seth Sevenski-Popma had good days Tuesday in the double dual victories. They went 1-2 in the 200-meter dash, with times of 23.62 and 23.91 seconds, respectively. The order was reversed for the 400, where Sevenski-Popma won in 52.94 seconds and Wolf checked in at 53.42. Junior Ashton Ordway made it a complete sweep with his personal best 53.80.

Devin Jakey, Ordway, Sevenski-Popma and Wolf hooked up for first place in the 800-meter relay in 1:35.88. The same group, except Josh Butler replacing Wolf, was first in the 1600 relay in 3:42.34.

The 3200 relay, with Alec Zoerman, Butler, Elijah Gamelin and Julian Leon-Flores defeated Tk with a time of 9:10.51.

Alec Zoerman came up with his best in the 800-meter run, with a winning time of 2:12.92.

Senior Robin Juppe won the open 3200-meter run against TK with a time of 11:13.21.

Trysten Sloan and Devin Westfahl went 1-2 in the 100-meter high hurdles in 18.02 and 18.10 seconds, respectively. Westfahl came in the 300 to win the event against TK in 44.84.

In field events, Robert Bausick was first against Forest Hills with a personal best throw of 41-11 in the shot put and a second by Alex McNamara. Arrow Kotarek and Mitch Salingue went 1-2 in the discus against Forest Hills.

Jakey won the high jump against Forest Hills and he was first against both opponents in the long jump at 20-05, his best personal leap.
