Wayland HiLinda Andersongh School math teacher Linda Anderson has been selected as a Michigan state-level finalist in mathematics for the Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching program.

Anderson was one of five finalists and will be recognized Dec. 7 at the Network of Michigan Educators conference, ECET2MI, in East Lansing.
As a state finalist, Anderson is automatically a candidate for the Presidential Award and will be reviewed by a national selection committee.

The Presidential Awards for Excellence in Mathematics and Science Teaching (PAEMST) is the highest recognition that a kindergarten through 12th grade mathematics or science (including computer science) teacher may receive for outstanding teaching in the United States.

Presidential Awardees receive a certificate signed by the President of the United States, a trip to Washington D.C. to attend a series of recognition events and professional development opportunities, and a $10,000 award from the National Science Foundation. Awardees will be announced in the spring of 2016.

Anderson has been teaching for 22 years with 18 years in her current position. Her teaching schedule includes Algebra 2, Advanced Mathematical Concepts, AP Statistics and Algebra 2 Support.

“Linda is a master teacher who is dedicated to her students, her profession and her community,” said Wayland High School principal Tom Cutler. “She is an expert in her field and very passionate about her students learning the curriculum in a manner that they can understand — she teaches them to think!”
