Groundbreaking for WHS pool is April 14

Wayland Union Schools will break ground for a new swim pool at 5 p.m. Monday, April 14, outside the high school at 870 E. Superior St. in Wayland.

Everyone is invited to attend the school board meeting at 6 p.m. that evening in the high school media center.

This project is part of a $49.7 million bond passed by voters district wide in May 2023.

Wayland Union Board of Education accepted bids for this project in February 2025, with construction beginning this month.

Superintendent Tim Reeves said, “We are proud to share that all the contractors are located within the state of Michigan.”

Besides the pool facility, phase two of the high school bond renovations project include upgrades to the current Computer Aided Design (C.A.D), wood and auto shop spaces, creating a new space for robotics, and improving the district’s band, orchestra, and choir classrooms. The district is currently in the design phase of those improvements.
