Wayland High School sophomore Travis Koon was individual medalist and the Wayland girls’ team tied for second in a four-team cross-country meet Tuesday at Middleville Thornapple Kellogg.

TK won the girls’ competition with 26 points, Wayland Hastings both had 60 and Delton Kellogg 84. In the boys’ competition, TK won with 40 points and Wayland finished one point away from third with 65, and just seven away from the runner-up slot.

Koon ran the five-kilometer course in 18:17, 12 seconds faster than runner-up Micah Ordway of Delton. Freshman teammate Isaac Dyer had his finest individual performance, finishing third in 18:49.

Devin Weaver was 16th, Jared Jandernoa 24th and Cainon Fenn 27th.

Freshman Ava Makowski again led the Lady Wildcats, finishing fourth in 21:29, but this time she was pushed by sophomore teammate Olivia Barabas, who was fifth 21:44.

Emma Thayer checked in 21st, Naomi Oosterhouse was 22nd and Faith Rollandini 29th.
