WHS Student Council wins Best of Showcase

Wayland High School Student Council members Teagan Robinson, Mason Babiak and Jake VanDuine came away with the “Best of Showcase” award in state competition after presenting on Harvest Hop, a fall event for local Level 2 high school students .

During the state conference, this award was paired with a $1,000 check from the SET SEG Foundation. Not only was this the first time Wayland Union students have received this recognition, it was also the first time SET SEG offered the accompanying prize.

Representatives from the SET SEG Foundation visited Wayland Union Schools Wednesday to present the check. Student Council members plan to use the money next school year to help fund Harvest Hop and offset the cost of attending their annual State Conference.

Wayland Student Council members attended the MASC Regional Connect Conference in Grand Rapids, where six of the members prepared two separate Student Showcase presentations in the regional competition. This competition gives students the opportunity to showcase the unique projects they are facilitating within their districts.

Both local presentations placed in the top four, earning the opportunity to continue on to state competition which was held during a state conference in February.

Advisor Nicki Cardosa said, “This was a huge undertaking for the participating students which demonstrates the perseverance and leadership skills of our Student Council members. Wayland Union Schools is so proud of these young leaders!”
