The Wayland boys’ and girls’ varsity bowling teams both scored solid victories Wednesday over Middleville Thornapple Kellogg at the Rock ’N Bowl.

The boys bested TK 28-2 and the girls won by a 26-4 count.  

The Wildcat guys struck the first five frames to start things and took Baker game one 219-150. Carter Decker, Wil Dewing and Kyle VanEss all contributed three strikes in their four frames and Vanessa had a couple of spares to add since he bowled the 10th frame.

“We fell just a little in the second game, but had enough pins to win 168-157,” coach Sherry Miklusicak said.  

Wayland took all nine possible points in the first match play contest with high games by Dominik Baker 192, Jayse Henkel 211 and Kyle VanEss 222. The team had a robust 937 total pins that game, beating TK by 283 pins.

High game in match two went to Wil Dewing, who had a great afternoon with a 191 (175 game one).

“It sure is great to see him smiling, as his game is really coming together!” Miklusicak exclaimed.

Jayse Henkel averaged 199.5, Wil Dewing averaged 183, Dominik Baker averaged 172.5 and Kyle VanEss 203.5.

“Miklusicak added, “Unfortunately we were down one of our varsity boys who dual sports in basketball. I saw him get absolutely clobbered last night — and no foul was called! Have your kids bowl – it’s much safer!” She quipped.

The Lady Wildcats dominated Thornapple Kellogg. The ‘Cats won both Baker games and took a 10-0 lead into match play.

Game one high game was by Haven Baker 166. High game in match two was Izzy Botwinski 167

Coach Eric Bottrall said, “Special shoutout to newcomer Faith Rabideau having a personal best of 153. That is pretty darn amazing.”
