The Wayland boys’ varsity bowling team finished in the middle of the pack in the Division 2 regional tournament Friday at Continental Lanes in Kalamazoo.

The Wildcats were ninth among the 17 schools in the competition. They rolled a combined 3,533 pins, 20 behind eighth-place Three Rivers.

Coldwater won the regional title with 4,062 pins total. Sturgis was runner-up and Marshall was third.

The top three teams and top 10 individuals qualify for the two separate state tournaments next weekend at Plymouth Canton.

None of the Wildcat boys made the top 10 to land a berth in the state tourney.

Wayland rolled games of 235, 168, 130, 152, 189 and 148 in the Baker games. The Wildcat boys bowled individual game totals of 802, 855 and 854.

Austin Beggs bowled the best total score for the Wildcats in Saturday’s individual competition. He finished 13^th by rolling a 213, 218, 195, 232, 161 and 150, for a six-game total of 1,169. He was just 28 pins behind 10^th place, where Coldwater’s Collin Outwater had 1,187.

Bryan Frank finished 23^rd with 1,120 pins. Cameron Heintzelman was 27^th with 1,101, Nick Couturier 37^th with 1,078, Michael Foley 38^th with 1,075 and Jesse Miling was 99^th.

Coach Sherry Miklusicak has noted that the team is losing a lot of seniors, with Franck and Foleythe only underclassmen among the top six at regionals. She often has taken to trying to recruit newcomers for next season.
