Both the Wayland boys’ and girls’ track teams had a tough day Tuesday at Forest Hills Eastern, dropping matches to the host school and Grand Rapids Catholic Central.

The losses were the first this spring for the Wildcats guys, who ran past all comers Friday night at the Hastings Relays. They lost to Forest Hills Eastern 79-58 and 77-60 to Catholic Central.

It was still a pretty good day for junior thrower and sprinter Adam Huff, who won the shot put again, this time at 52-1 and the discus at 157-07. Huff also ran a leg for the guys’ winning 400-meter relay team, hooking up with Geno Wierckz, Henry Maas and Austin Graham in 44.5 seconds.

Wierckz ran a personal best time of 11.45 seconds i9n the 100, but still had to settled for second place. Aidan Reeder also turned his best time in the 200 at 23.02 seconds, but was about a half second slower than the race winner.

Warren Smith had his best at 11-6 in the pole vault but finished third. Wierckz and teammate Justin Springs went 2-3 in the long jump at 19.01.5 and 18-09.25, respectively.

The girls lost 96-41 to Forest Hills and 80-57 to Catholic Central.

Addyson Moyle and Kennedy Jasinski were the only overall winners for the Lady ‘Cats. Moyle won the high jump at 4-10 and Jasinski cruised to victory in the pole vault at 10-6. Jasinski also was second overall in the long jump at 14-07.

Megan Brogger had her personal best time in the 400 at 1:04.04, but checked in third.

Emily VanVolkinburg finished third overall in the 300 hurdles with a time of 56.04 seconds.

Kennedy Jasinski, Taylor Wolf, Jersey Beckwith and Laney Wolf bested Catholic Central in the 400-meter relay. The Wolfs, Megan Brogger and Eliot Antel did the same in the 800 relay and they beat Forst Hills in the 1600 relay.

Junior thrower Taylor Hoogewind finished second in the shot put with a toss of 29-07.5. She also was second overall in the discus at 95-10.
