The Wayland boys’ varsity bowling team placed eighth among 16 teams competing Friday at the Division 2 regional tournament at Continental Lanes in Kalamazoo.

Coach Sherry Miklusicak said, “Our boys bowled well today… they represented our school quite well and made their coaches proud!”

Seniors Max Oosterhouse, Tyler Omness and Alan Beggs were bowling in their last high school matches.

“I sure wish we could have these three boys another year,” Miklusicak said.

Omness, who joined the team as a senior this season, was the highest Wayland bowler and took 27th out of 80. His scores were 170, 144, 198 and 150. Right behind him was Oosterhouse with scores of: 122, 199, 139 and 193. Steven Harnish had 164, 142, 163 and 156

The coach noted Wildcat boys’ teams in the past five years managed to crack the top 10 only once, taking sixth of 15 in 2018.

The Wayland girls’ squad, coached by Eric Bottrall, will be on the lanes Saturday for their turn in the regional competition.
