Wildcat boys capture 1st dual match win of season

The Wayland boys’ varsity bowling team captured its first dual match victory of the season Monday evening with a 19-11 decision over Forest Hills Eastern.

The girls’ team won as well, 23-7 over the Hawks.

Alan Beggs, who coach Sherry Rybiski Miklusicak said used to be the baby of the Beggs bowling family, “now is the biggest and strongest of them all, and thankfully he is our anchor bowler.”

Beggs rolled a 196 and personal best 212 game to lead a team effort triumph, pushing Wayland’s record to 1-6.

Wayland began the evening in a commanding way, winning both Baker games and going up 10-0 to start the event.

Things were looking great for the ‘Cats going into game one. Winning individual match points were Stephen Harnish, Jordan Fitzgerald (173) and Beggs. The Wildcats also took game one total by 21 pins.

“At this point we already had won and we were now up 17-2,” Miklusicak said. “There was no way we could lose! What relief going into game two.”

What initially looked like the ‘Cats would be blown out of game two, ended much closer.

“The boys just kept fighting. Freshman Chandler Caruso took another point for our guys as well as Alan Beggs.

“Grand total for the two matches was taken by FHE by just 11 pins. One more spare somewhere in the two individual matches would have given the boys two more points. That is just how close a match can be.”

The ladies dominated the afternoon, winning 23-7.

“We started a bit shaky tonight as we lost the first Baker game by six pins,” coach Eric Bottrall said. “We bowled a little better and had won the second Baker game by enough pins to take total as well.

In the first game of individuals the Lady Wildcats took seven of the next nine points to go ahead 11 – 8. Lillian Gates, Bella Harnish and Kadence Bottrall (185) all took their points.

Game two winners were Lilly Gates, Haley Taylor, Bella Harnish, and Kadence Bottrall. Wayland took eight of nine points in this match and another two points for total pins.

The Lady ‘Cats now are 5-1-1 in overall dual matches this season.
