The Wayland boys’ varsity bowling team Wednesday pulled out a 16-14 squeaker over Ottawa Hills to capture its second dual match victory of the young season.

“Oh, my goodness, that was a close one,” said coach Sherry Miklusicak. “It was a scary start! We found ourselves down 10-0 after the two Baker games. Most of the boys only marked 50% of the time. That doesn’t win games and Ottawa bowled very well.”

In game one, freshmen Carter Decker came in and stole the point back with some fine bowling in his first varsity appearance. He spared, struck, struck and spared again to help the team to their desperately needed first point of the evening.

Mark Musgrave came through to claim the Wildcats’ second point. Then Chandler Caruso crushed a superb 210 game giving them enought pins to take the total as well, as Wayland now trailed 12-7.

Freshman Dominik Baker saw his first varsity experience as well and started with a strike!

“He was so eager to get another one, we practically had to pull him off the lane as he was ready to go!” exclaimed Miklusicak, “You could see the excitement in his eyes.”

Carter Decker took his second point of the evening, as did Mark Musgrave with a 182. Chandler Caruso took his second point as well and Wayland had total of game two. Score: Wayland 14 – Ottawa 14.

The Wildcats finally were awarded two points for total pins for games one and two, 1571 to 1355
