The Wayland boys’ varsity bowling team lost 24-6 Monday night to Byron Center.

The Wildcats started out the evening pretty well, rolling a 206 for the second Baker game. They led 6-4 before the first individual match.

“It appeared Byron Center was pretty confused by how dry the lanes were,” coach Sherry Miklusicak said.

Wayland was within 10 pins of Byron through five frames, but suffered through a horrible sixth frame in which every Wildcat bowler opened. Byron Center then figured out the lanes and blew the score wide open.

“It was disappointing to see the boys just run out of steam in the second game, as they haven’t done that this year,” Miklusicak said.

High game was Dillon Smith with a 202 and Joe Laidler with a 178.

The Wayland ladies give Byron Center all they can handle, but fell short 17-13.

The Lady ‘Cats found themselves up 10-0 as they blanked Byron Center in the Baker games.

In match one, Amber Beggs took the lone point. Kendra VanKoevering rolled the ball well, but lost her first match by only one pin. Wayland was still up 11 – 8 at this point. They only needed to take 5 more points in match two to come away with the win.

Match two went back and forth the entire game, but the Wildcats fell apart in the tenth frame with too many opens and Byron Center finished stronger. Brooke Bixler took her match point as did senior captain Amber Beggs, whose 179 game led the Wildcat team this evening.
