Wildcat boys’ harriers get ready to roll at Cedar Springs.

Both the Wayland boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams were missing the services of their top runners Saturday at the Cedar Springs Invitational.

With sophomore Travis Koon and freshman Ava Makowski doing soccer matches instead, the Wildcat boys placed eighth among nine teams and the girls seventh of ten.

Calvin Christian won the girls’ competition with 34 team points. The Lady Wildcats accumulated 195. Host Cedar Springs topped the boys’ field with 38 and Wayland had 219.

However, the No. 2 runners both earned medals. Sophomore Olivia Barabas took fifth with a time of 20:28.59 and sophomore Devin Weaver was 24th in 18:40.69.

Rounding out the Lady Wildcats scoring were Hannah Smith in 29th, Emma Thayer 65th, Megan Rose 84th and Emma Byers 97th.

For the guys, Jared Jandernoa just missed breaking into the 20-minute barrier and was 53rd, Cainon Fenn 80th, James Butler 81st and Carter VanWyk 92nd.

There were 120 male runners in the rac e and 105 females.
