The Wayland boys’ varsity track team posted two dual meet victories Wednesday in its season opener against O-K Gold Conference rivals Forest Hills Eastern 83.33-52.66 and East Grand Rapids 71-65.

The Lady Wildcats lost their dual encounters at the same time, 90.66-43.33 to EGR and FHE 103-34.

In the overall meet, the Wildcats’ 800 relay quartet carried the day with a time of 1:33.58, including Devin Jakey, Ian Thompson, Seth Sevenski-Popma and Caleb Wolf. The 1600 relay did the same thing at 3:39.45 with Ashton Ordway, Devin Westfahl, Justin Holtz and Josh Butler.

The big individual winner of the day was Robert Bausick, who claimed the shot put in 47-11 and the discus in 132-01.

Sevenski-Popma was first in the 400-meter run in 50.78 seconds and took second in the 200-meter dash. Teammate Caleb Wolf was third in the 400.

Another winner was Austin Reeder, who cleared 5-10 in the high jump. Pletcher was third in that event.

Westfahl was third in the 300-meter hurdles.

Jakey, Thompson, Butler and Wolf hooked up for a time of 44.65 seconds in the 400-meter relay, good for second for the day behind Wyoming.

Jakey also was second in the long jump at 19-01.5.

Also second was the 3200 relay with Elijah Gamelin, Alessandro Porta, Butler and Caleb Pletcher in 8:39.77.

Junior Corrina Courser, to no one’s surprise, swept the hurdles for the Wayland girls’ team and was first in the 200-meter dash. She won the 200 in 26.91 seconds. Her winning was 15.86 seconds in the 100 hurdles and it was 47.07 in the 300.

Sophomore Madelyn Probst ties for first place in the high jump with a leap of 4-8.

The 800 relay team was second overall in 1:52.02 with Mackenzie Wolf, Kylea Wells, Madelyn Probst and Courser.

The 3200 relay team was third with Zoe Antel, Serena VanHouten, Naomi Oosterhouse and Rylee Cronkright.

Jessica Hortman was third in the shot put at 28-09.5. Asila Sok was third in the pole vault.
