The Wayland boys’ varsity track team finished 11th among 13 teams Friday at the Michigan Track Coaches’ Association meet at Zeeland West.

Host Zeeland West won the competition with 125 team points, Zeeland East was runner-up and Grand Rapids Christian third. Wayland scored 733 points in a meet scored according to 30 points for first place, 29 for second, 28 for third, etc,

The Wildcats were hampered, as usual, by the fact the meet was held on the day after the school’s annual all-nighter graduation party.

Highlights among the performances:

•The 1600-meter relay team of Caleb Wolf, Josh Butler, Alessandro Porta and Seth Sevenski-Popma was first in 3:28.30.

• Devin Jakey took second in the long jump at 20-08.

• Seth Sevenski-Popma was third in the 400 with a time of 51.07 seconds.

Robert Bausick finished fourth in shot put with a throw of 45-03,75.

• The 400-meter relay team of Devin Jakey, Ian Thompson, Josh Butler and Austin Reeder was eighth in 45.75 seconds.

The MITCA meet is open to girls’ and boys’ team that finish first or second in their regional meets. It is a competition more oriented toward team than individual performances.
