There was a lot of hot bowling by both Wayland boys and girls Wednesday afternoon at the Rock ‘N Bowl Lanes. The guys won 28-2 and the girls 27.5 to 2.5 over O-K Gold Conference rival South Christina.
It was a crazy hot afternoon at the Rock “N Bowl,” said boys’ coach Sherry Miklusicak. “I’m not quite sure of any other way to explain it!”
The boys lifted their overall season dual match record to 7-5 while the ladies are now 11-1.
The first Baker game for the Wildcat lads set the tone when they rolled a 223 game. They stayed warm in the second Baker game with a 185 to go up 10-0.
“I am quite speechless after team game one,” Miklusicak beamed. “We had so many amazing scores this afternoon.”
Aydin Tolliver, who rolled a league best 500 for two games earlier in January, recorded the highest score Wednesday with a 265 game, followed by Chandler Caruso‘s 224, and Dominik Baker‘s 223. Kyle VanEss also rocked out a 177 game as all four men took their points against their opponents along with total pins.
At this point, the Wildcats already had won, taking an 18-1 lead into the second round of matches. The team total was 1,046 and broke the previous written school record by 13 pins.
“While the gracious thing to do would be to sub in some other younger players, I knew we had a chance at taking the two-game series school record,” Miklusicak said. “I walked over to the South Christian coach and apologized that I was keeping the starting lineup in the match and explained that we had a chance at breaking a school record and he understood.”
Leading the scores for the second match was Dominik Baker‘s 243, Kyle VanEss’s 232, and Jayse Henkel followed with a 187. Adding an additional point was Aydin Tolliver‘s 174. The boys’ total score for match two was over 1,000 pins as well with a 1,003. Add the 1046 and add it to game two’s total of 1003, you get another school record of 2049 pins.
• Dominik Baker 223 & 243 = 466
• Aydin Tolliver 265 & 174 = 439
• Kyle VanEss 177 & 232 = 409
• Chandler Caruso 224 & 167 = 391
• Jayse Henkel 157 & 187 = 344.
In conference play, the Wildcat boys are now first in team scratch game, second for a two-game Baker total and Miklusicak said she suspects they are in first for total pins as well.
For the Wayland girls, High scores were recorded by Juliette 108, Breanna Hyde 148, Izzy Botwinski 151, Haven Baker 205 and Kadence Bottrall 218. Haven Baker for bowled her highest game in conference with that 205.
