WHS soccerThe Wayland boys’ varsity soccer team is off to an 0-2 start after losses Friday at home to Comstock Park 4-1 and Monday 3-0 at Zeeland East.

The first half of the contest at home was evenly played, but the Panthers pulled away with a penalty kick and two late second half goals to secure the win in the season opener. The Wildcats were down 2-1 at the half.

Tristen Ortiz scored the only Wildcat goal. Jake Larsen made 10 saves on 13 shots.

The Wildcats at Zeeland East conceded an early first half goal to the Chix, but battled back and were able to keep things close going into halftime.

Jake Larsen made 7 saves on 10 shots and Kyle Thelen made 4 saves on 4 shots.

“Unfortunately two bad bounces resulted in second half goals for the home team and the Wildcats were unable to beat the Chix keeper for one of their own,” said coach Ben Sleeman.

The boys will travel to Otsego Wednesday night in search of their first win of the season.
