The Wayland boys’ varsity track team earned runner-up honors in the Division 2 regional meet Friday at Sparta.
The guys’ squad came up with 99 points. Forest Hills Eastern, the O-K Gold Conference champion, won it with 156. The girls collected 53 points, while Grand Rapids Christian took all of the marbles with 111.
Several Wildcats emerged as regional champions.
Freshman Evie Mathis and sophomore Kennedy Jasinski tied for first in the pole vault by clearing 10-9. Mathis won the regional crown on fewer misses. Breanna Hyde was first in the long jump, fourth in 100-meter hurdles and third in the 300 intermediate hurdles at 49.19.
Junior Kaharrie Pureifoy took first in the long jump with a leap of 20-7.25 and teammate Cam Mouketou finished sixth. Pureifoy also was third in 200 and second in the 100-meter dash with a personal best time of 11.06 seconds.
Austin Graham recorded a personal best 15.57 seconds time in the 110-meter high hurdles to finish second.
The 400-meter relay quartet of Terry Sylvester, Graham, Cannon Fenn and Pureifoy was second with a time of 44.06, only six-hundredths of a second away from the regional title.
Adam Huff was runner-up in the shot put with a his personal best toss of 47-4.5 and teammate Bronson Huyck was sixth. Huff finished second in the discus at 158-3 and Huyck was fifth.
Dylan Pallett, Margin Howard, Travis Soon and Devin Weaver checked in third at 8:20.89 in the 3200-meter relay.
Wayland captured fourth place in the 1600-meter relay with Aiden Reeder, Travis Koon, Devin Weaver and Cannon Fenn checking in with a time of 3:33.99.
Aiden Reeder and Cannon Fenn were fourth and fifth, respectively in the open 400.
Devin Weaver was fourth in the 800 at 2:00.05.
Pedro Reis, Graham, Aiden Reeder and Sylvester finished fourth in the 800-meter relay with a timer of 1:34.59.
Taylor Hoogewind took fourth in the discus, throwing it 98-0.
The 3200-meter relay team of Emma Thayer, Ava Makowski, Isabelle Soper and Olivia Barabas was sixth.
