The Wayland Invitational track meet Tuesday was scored just like the Michigan Track Coaches Association team championship meet, which involves many more team members in the competition.

The Wildcat boys captured the top spot with 646.5 points, about 250 more than runner-up Grand Rapids Track Club Peregrines. The girls finished second with 498.5, trailing only Plainwell’s 631.5.

The Wildcat boys again proved to be solid in the sprints. Ian Thompson was only 17-tenths of a second slower than his school record 10.6 in the 100 and teammate Kaharrie Pureifoy was second. The two hooked up with Austin Graham and Terry Sylvester to take first in the 400-meter relay in 44.37 seconds. Pureifoy, Cainon Fenn, Graham and Thompson took the 800 relay in 1:33.26.

Not to be outdone, Devin Weaver, Henry Oudbier, Aidan Reeder and Fenn checked in at 3:40.69 to win the 1600 relay and Weaver, freshman Dylan Pallett, Oudbier abd Travis Koon combined efforts to win the 3200 relay in 8:50.39 to make it all a Wildcat sweep in the relays.

Carson Noyes continued his winning ways in the shot with a toss of 48-5 and teammate Bronson Huyck was third. Noyes settled for second in the discus.

Cam Mouketou, Pureifoy and Gabriel Hatkowski went 1-2-3 in the long jump, Mouketou leaped 18-6.

Oudbier also had a creditable day in distance runs, as did Koon and Weaver.

For the Lady Wildcats, Breanna Hyde was second in the 100-meter high hurdles and she, Taylor Wolf and Faith Rollandini went 2-3-4 in the 200.

Freshman Kennedy Jasinski went 10-0 again in the pole vault to win that event.

Hyde was second in the long jump.

The relay teams of Wolf, Elliot Antel, Jasinski and Rollandini was second in the 800; Noelle House, Byers and Jasinski scored one third in the 1600, and the 3200 quartet of Ava Makowski, Olivia Barabas, Elliot Antel and House copped a second.
