There was some moveWHS basketballment in this week’s Associated Press statewide Class B high school basketball rankings. And some of it was puzzling.

The Wayland boys, now 10-2 for the season overall, slipped one spot, from sixth to seventh, despite defeating Hastings, South Christian and Detroit Country Day. Even more puzzling was that Otsego was moved ahead to No. 6, despite the fact Wayland defeated the Bulldogs in a nonleague encounter several weeks ago.

The Wildcat girls moved up from No. 3 to No. 2 after surviving an upset bid Friday by South Christian and breezing past Hastings. Archrival Grand Rapids Catholic Central remained at No. 5.

On another puzzling note, once-beaten Grands Rapids NorthPointe Christian was only honorable mention, despite the fact it defeated Wyoming Godwin Heights, which is at No. 4 in boys’ Class B.

Plainwell, like Wayland, has a 13-0 record but is only honorable mention in Class B.
