The Wayland boys’ varsity cross-country team Wednesday finished sixth among 11 teams in the Saran Invitational.
The Wildcats accumulated 164 team points. Byron Center won the meet with 47.
Junior Dylan Pallett led the way for Wayland by finishing 13th in 17:19.1, followed by Isaac Dyer 14th in 17:22, freshman Xander Stepek 19th in 17:38.7, freshman Mason Fein 59th in 19:19.8 and sophomore Ethan Manning 70th in 20:12.8.
There was good news and bad news in the girls’ competition. The good news was that the Wildcats finally fielded a full team of five runners. The bad news was that the ‘Cats finished ninth among 11 squads.
Senior captain Elliot Antel was the top Wayland runner, taking 33rd place in 22:58.2. Megan Stack was 72nd, Sarah Osborn 80th, Keyli Perez 81st, and Alyssa Lawrence 91st.
Byron Center took first place with 52 team points. Wayland had 288 team points.
