A young Wayland boys’ golf team was edged by Caledonia 170-171 in a nonleague match Wednesday afternoon at the Broadmoor Country Club.

The Wildcats were led by medalist Jake Omness who shot a 39. But the ‘Cats shot five strokes over their score in their opening win over Byron Center.

“I really don’t know why, but I like playing this course,” said Omness. “I know I shot well here last year as well.”

Wayland finished out their scoring with 43s from Carson Sevigny and Rory Myers and a 46 from Ethan Pawloski.

Coach Chris Drew said, “We really didn’t play that well today, but still made the match close. That is a good sign for the rest of the season.” The Wildcats are now 1 -1 and look forward to starting the conference season next week.
