The Wayland boys’ golf team finished fourth among seven teams Wednesday in the first O-K Gold Conference jamboree at Quail Ridge golf club

“The scores were low and very competitive,” reported coach Chris Drew.

Wayland was led by sophomore Rory Bessinger with a 40 for the nine holes of play, followed by 42s from Rory Myers and Robert Mucci. The score was completed with a 45 from Mitch Salisbury.

Forest Hills Eastern won the meet with a team score of 154. East Grand Rapids had a 165 and Grand Rapids Christian a 167. Wayland checked in at 169, one stroke ahead of South Christian.

“This is going to be a very competitive conference, but Forest Hills Eastern is definitely the front runner,” said Drew.

Wayland will look to improve their scores Friday at Yankee Springs in the Thornapple Kellogg Invitational, and head to Cedar Chase Saturday for the Rockford Tournament.
