Ritz, VanMalsenThe Wayland varsity volleyball team won four of six matches Saturday in the Grandville Invitational and made it all the way to the tournament semifinals.

In pool play the Wildcats beat Morley Stanwood 25-20, 23-25, 15-12; Reeths Puffer 25-21, 17-25, 15-9, and Kenowa Hills 25-16 and 25-18 but lost to state-ranked Mattawan 25-13 and 25-13.

They defeated Grandville 25-22, 18-25, 15-7 in the quarterfinals of the Gold bracket before losing a tight three-set match to West Catholic in the semifinals.

Mattawan won in the tournament finals over West Catholic.

Leading the Wildcats were Sydney Ritz led with 42 kills, 4 blocks, and 31 digs, Leigha Morse with 84 assists, 38 digs, and 9 aces, Taryn Coughlin with 32 kills, and 12 aces, and Lyndie VanMalsen with 59 digs.

The Wildcats are 1-1 thus far this season in the O-K Gold Conference and they have won one invitational, at Comstock Park.
