'Cats congratulateThe Wayland varsity volleyball team passed its first test this season against an O-K Gold Conference opponent.

The Wildcats swept host Middleville Thornapple Kellogg 25-22, 25-22 and 25-22 in a dual match Wednesday evening.

Leading coach Nicki Cardosa’s Wildcats were Taryn Coughlin with 10 kills; Leigha Morse, 22 assists and 3 aces; Anna Johnson, 3 Leigh Morseaces, Lyndie VanMalsen, 11 digs.

The Lady Wildcats already have shown an ability to be competitive this year, winning the Comstock Park Invitational last month and two of their losses have been to state-ranked teams, Mattawan and Battle Creek Harper Creek.
