‘Wildcat Wednesday’ faces challenge by Internet snafu

Wayland Union Schools today (Wednesday) faced challenges on the one day students all are supposed to get their learning one line — The Internet was down.

Under the district’s hybrid system, one group of students attends face-to-face instruction on Mondays and Thursdays and the other group shows up Tuesdays and Fridays. Wednesdays are reserved for all instruction on line.

The measures are deemed necessary because of the threats of the Coronovirus.

Supt. Dr. Christina Hinds, in a message to students, staff and parents, wrote:

“All buildings are without Internet this morning. Our technology department has been working diligently to remedy the issue. Teachers have the option to work from home or to wait until the Internet is restored on campus.

“Live lessons will be held as planned as teachers are able. Please join Zoom meetings as scheduled. If your teacher is not present within ten minutes, please disconnect and wait for an email from the teacher providing additional information.

“This does not apply to our families enrolled in VAAC (Virtual Academy of Allegan County), as that program is not impacted by this Internet outage.

“Thank you for your patience, understanding, and flexibility as we work to restore our internet. We will notify you when restoration is complete.”
